Once a homeowner in Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra, Nocatee, or St. Johns County has decided to move forward with a roof replacement, the next question is almost always the same: what color? As a GAF Certified Plus contractor, we install GAF Timberline HDZ and Timberline Ultra HDZ shingles on the large majority of our replacements, and picking the right colorway matters more than most homeowners expect — it affects curb appeal, resale value, and even how hot your attic gets in Florida summers.

A warm, natural blend of brown and gray tones. One of the most versatile options and a strong match for brick, stucco, and coastal-style homes throughout Northeast Florida.

A cooler, more neutral gray that pairs well with modern exteriors and lighter siding or trim colors.

A deep, almost black-gray tone that gives a home a sharper, more contemporary look. Popular on newer builds in Nocatee and Durbin Crossing.

A blue-gray tone with subtle depth, often chosen by homeowners wanting something distinct from the more common browns and grays.

A lighter gray with warm undertones, a popular choice for coastal and beach-adjacent homes near Ponte Vedra and the Jacksonville Beaches.

A muted, sandy gray-brown blend that leans into a relaxed, coastal aesthetic.
Match your home’s fixed elements first. Brick, stone, and stucco don’t change when you replace your roof, so the shingle color needs to work with what’s already there — not the other way around.
Consider your neighborhood. In HOA communities throughout St. Johns County and Nocatee, there are sometimes color guidelines. We can help confirm what’s approved before you fall in love with a colorway.
Think about heat. Darker shingles absorb more heat, which matters in Florida’s climate. Lighter and mid-tone colors like Oyster Gray or Weathered Wood can help slightly with attic temperatures, though ventilation matters more than color alone.
See it in person, not just on a screen. Shingle colors look different in direct Florida sun than they do in a brochure or on a phone screen. We bring physical samples to every estimate so you can see the actual color against your home.
Regardless of which colorway you choose, every shingle roof we install includes the GAF System Plus Warranty at no additional cost — a lifetime warranty on your shingles, a 50-year protection period, and a 15-year wind warranty.
Does shingle color affect the price? Typically not within the standard Timberline HDZ line — pricing is driven more by shingle tier (HDZ vs. Ultra HDZ) than color choice.
Can I see samples before committing? Yes — we bring physical shingle samples to every free estimate so you can view the color against your actual home in natural light.
Will a dark roof make my house hotter? Darker shingles do absorb more heat than lighter ones, but proper attic ventilation has a bigger overall impact on indoor temperature than shingle color alone.
